Why Slow and Steady Wins the Race in Social Media

A lot of the times, new business pop up and their owners are so excited about this new venture that they think they need to see quick growth on social media. This mindset may lead them to make some rash decisions such as buying followers or spending too much on ads. And it may look impressive to investors to have gained over 1,000 followers in under a month, but savvy investors know there's more to it than that. And the day-to-day consumer probably won't even pay attention.

Let's get this out of the way right at the front: Do not buy followers. No one knows for sure, but it's estimated that about 15% of social media accounts are bots. That's 15% of about 3 billion. So, if you had every bot on Twitter following you, it would bring your follower count up to about 450 million. Sounds impressive, right? It does right up until you realize that bots aren't buying your products or telling any real people about you. You could make the case that the high number of foll…

Happy New Year!

It's pretty sad when it takes 8 days after the fact to acknowledge the new year. However, it is 2008... maybe 8 days is appropriate somehow...?

This holiday season has been pretty busy for me. And I don't say "holiday" because "Christmas" is offensive... I say "holiday" because I'm including Thanksgiving and the New Year. I guess I'm including Hanukah, too... but not Kwanza! No Kwanza for you!

Anyway, it's been busy because kids are out of school and going to see movies which means I get more hours at the theater on top of my regular writing gigs and trying to get epic gear for my level-70 Blood Elf mage, Maenethil.

The latest news is that I'm trying to find a job up north in the Chicagoland area. I would specifically like to get back to my old stomping grounds, Joliet, but anywhere in that vicinity would be awesome. On the other hand, if I can find a job that'll take me straight to either NY or LA, well, then that will be the one I'll take.

Haven't made any movies recently, but I am scheduled to go to a Film Review this Friday with Ben Rosa to see a movie we made a few months ago. Also, we're still in the middle of writing The Urge which, as I just found out yesterday, is very close to getting funding! Production will happen as soon as we can finalize a script and if it is a financial success, then we can move on to more awesome stuff. Ben has an idea for a movie that rivals my idea for Flood. 2008 is bound to be an exciting year!

Well, the servers should be back up for World of Warcraft, so I'm gonna go check my auctions before I go to work and go learn my new Ice Block spell! Woohoo! Fire Mage with Ice Block! See ya at the movies!
