Why Slow and Steady Wins the Race in Social Media

A lot of the times, new business pop up and their owners are so excited about this new venture that they think they need to see quick growth on social media. This mindset may lead them to make some rash decisions such as buying followers or spending too much on ads. And it may look impressive to investors to have gained over 1,000 followers in under a month, but savvy investors know there's more to it than that. And the day-to-day consumer probably won't even pay attention.

Let's get this out of the way right at the front: Do not buy followers. No one knows for sure, but it's estimated that about 15% of social media accounts are bots. That's 15% of about 3 billion. So, if you had every bot on Twitter following you, it would bring your follower count up to about 450 million. Sounds impressive, right? It does right up until you realize that bots aren't buying your products or telling any real people about you. You could make the case that the high number of foll…

New Look; New Outlook

I'm not gonna lie: it's been a long few weeks. Seems like an awful lot of work just to get back to square one. But it feels good! The new version of Blogger has been out for a while and I've wanted to mess around with it, but never felt like I wanted anything to change. Well, now I do. I have a whole new outlook on what I'm going for here, and that brings with it a costume change.

Man, I really like the new stuff Blogger has added! I'm really kind of bummed that I didn't allow myself to look around earlier. You'll notice some native sharing options instead of the AddThis bar (which is now over on the sidebar if you want to share the entire site). Also a five-star rating system and some other stuff. Most of all it just looks awesome! I love this theme.

But what's really of interest is that I have a completely new plan for Street Light Interference. You'll remember in the last post I mentioned I was going to turn it into a series of comic books. Well, that's not exactly panning out. So, what will I do instead? A series of short stories! This has been in my mind for a while as a possible option, but there were a few doubts. For one thing, I'm sensitive to the plight of people who don't really consider themselves readers. I was never much into reading myself... writing, sure, but not reading. It's too much of a commitment most of the time, right? Well, how can we break down that commitment into easy-to-read segments of a larger story? We hand them out in half-hour chunks, just like TV.

I'm getting back into the swing of things, I think. Hopefully. The Green Asterisk has not been abandoned. Just... delayed. Come back later for some good stuff! I still have to plan out the SLI storyline post by post and in the meantime I'll regale you with some other random awesomeness. And it goes on and on, my friends.
